The Botanical
A bright cup with a dark heart.
Hibiscus is usually treated as filler — the red dust at the bottom of a fruit blend. Given whole calyces and nothing to hide behind, it becomes something else: vivid, tart and unmistakably itself.
Hot, it drinks like cranberry and blood orange. Iced, it is the best thing on the porch in July.
Origin
Grown beneath the North African sun.
Our hibiscus comes from smallholder plots along the Nile delta, harvested calyx by calyx and sun-dried whole. The citrus peel is added at blending for lift, not sweetness.
Preparation
The preferred cup.
